My daughter moved from an “adequate” school a year and a half ago due to a house move, yet this school were miles ahead in terms of teaching and challenging the students abilities.

This school does not give the homework government minimum requirements which isn’t acceptable in year 5 and does not prepare my daughter for high school, far to many Fridays my daughter came home with no homework, I asked the headteacher about this, who is the type to tell you what you want to hear then nothing ever gets done, this was proved a month later as still no homework was given, I then went into school and spoke to my daughters teacher, homework started 2 weeks later but soon dithered off less than a month into being set. I then contacted the relevant governor and a meeting was held between myself, the headmaster and the governor Shannon, it was agreed that the school were not following guidelines and so far it has been set, but again getting lazier and lazier, nothing but a cop out to save them marking! my daughter never had to so much as look over her spellings as she done similar words in year 3, some children in her class I was told could not spell blue?! So my daughter has to have nursery spellings and be held back because others struggle!

My daughters education has seriously deteriorated since starting this school which has been very upsetting and frustrating, she went from a school where she was average at maths needing no help, to needing additional help, she spells simple words wrong which never used to happen, her fitness is shot as in her old school they had many clubs like running, netball, football, choir, chess etc all free and in school time, none of that is available in this school even paid for.

The teachers leave a lot to be desired especially mrs Gregory who has a very childish attitude, she once embarrassed my daughter in front of her entire class and came home in tears about it, I called and spoke to to her to be talked down to, childishly, and for her to even comment on a trip that was coming up with her ranting that she has to give her weekend up to take my daughter to plas menia! Ha excuse me it’s the class you took, not just my daughter, Im sure she was paid for had free accommodation and certainly wasn’t forced! Nothing but unprofessional, but I’ve come to expect nothing else from this school!

We always knew we would move before my daughter reached high school as never in a million years would I let her go to Denbigh high! But this continuous battle for them to do their jobs, and to stop being lazy has prompted us to move sooner than planned, children deserve to be pushed and challenged to give them the best start in life, not held back with a “it will do” attitude!

My daughters thriving in her new school and the work is much more challenging and suited to her age, the gaps missing from what she should of been taught by now were made clear in the first week but thankfully she is getting better again luckily before it was to late. I can now be confident that she will be prepared for high school rather than worry.

If you want a friendly school then here will do but if you want your child to have a good education, be challenged, have good school dinners, not be held back and their education to improve, not deteriorate then I certainly wouldn’t recommend this school.
en
This school does not deserve the Estyn grade that it has, which has opened my eyes and made me realise that estyn grades mean nothing!
