Our School - Newlands Girls' School
Home Our School Our School Headteacher's Welcome We had the most fantastic year in 2024-25. There were many highlights from academic and sporting success, to student leadership driving the school forwards with ideas and initiatives, guided by the Student Council. In May 2024, Ofsted conducted a routine inspection and judged that the school continues to be outstanding. The opening sentence of our Inspection Report rightfully describes us as ‘exceptional’. I am determined to continue to work alongside students, staff, parents, carers and governors to ensure we remain outstanding, and as I tell the students regularly, I see outstanding things every day in lessons and beyond. Newlands has been providing high quality education for over one hundred years. During this time, the school has gone from strength to strength and currently sits in the top 20% of state schools in terms of pupil progress; as a team, we will work tirelessly to maintain this standard, whilst offering a rich and diverse curriculum which goes way beyond the classroom. I am committed to ensuring that students receive the education, support and opportunities they need to achieve incredible things. They deserve the very best experience possible. Our ethos is based on the 3Cs - the values which underpin everything we do. Courage, Commitment and Compassion are at the heart of our approach to school life and drive our students to ‘set no limits’ on their success. At Newlands, all pupils can expect impressive teaching from well-qualified specialists. Facilities include an indoor swimming pool, sports hall, gym, drama studio, design and technology suite and a dedicated music block. With a broad and balanced curriculum, which stretches and excites, there is always something new and interesting to learn. As a parent as well as a Headteacher, I know that the happiness of our children, alongside success - be it academic, sporting or creative - is the top priority. At Newlands we are committed to nurturing and challenging everyone in the school, and it is our goal to deliver academic outcomes, as well as rounded, confident young women, regardless of background or special educational need. Expert pastoral teams ensure that every student is cared for, with an emphasis on the promotion of wellbeing. Kindness, good humour and politeness characterise everyday life at Newlands. Exemplary behaviour, achieved through a rigorous approach to demanding high standards and shared classroom routines, alongside positive relationships, underpin our school values, which helps keep everyone safe and happy. The House System, which is active and flourishing, provides opportunities for students across all ages to come together for events and competitions-all of which help cement a thriving community spirit. I would be delighted to share with you, first hand, all that is outstanding about our fantastic school. Tours will run throughout this academic year. If you wish to book a place, please ring us on 01628 625068 and ask to speak to my PA, Heli Braver. I look forward to welcoming you and sharing my vision, but most importantly, allowing you to see our teachers and students in action; the very best ambassadors of our school and the people who fill me with immense pride on a daily basis.
