reviews:
Coming from a former Sixth form student, the quality of education given to students isn’t that bad. Ofsted rated this school as outstanding for a very clear reason, as some of the teachers you’ll meet have a unique character and personality trait to them, and they will be long remembered afterwards because of this. With that said however as with most Ofsted outstanding schools, there are some very ridiculous rules that are strictly enforced (e.g. NO LEVEL 1 HAIRCUTS... As if that makes a difference to a child’s education...)

Secondary school pupils (Years 7-11) are forced to line up at the end of every break and lunch time, which cuts their actual break by at least 10-15 minutes as well as being forced to eat from the schools Canteen. While some of the teachers in this school are good, a small minority of teachers that won't be named (for legal reasons lol sorry) in my opinion should not be teaching at all. I say this because these teachers only follow the textbook/syllabus. They instruct students to read a segment of a textbook and do the exercise questions on the same page and keep on rinsing and repeating this style of teaching. Unfortunately, because of this attitude to teaching they are utterly horrendous by not explaining complicated theories in class...

Most of your free periods (which most Sixth forms and colleges have) have been replaced by "study sessions" which are compulsory to attend and are supervised by supply teachers who are utterly woeful and (in my opinion) have serious personality issues. So, what are supposed to be 10+ free periods now become 4 a week (excluding lunchtimes). This in my opinion takes away the freedom of sixth form and replaces it with an extended version of the St Michaels experience of secondary school. Also, sixth formers must take compulsory RE classes which barely anyone attends and is frankly utterly useless. 2 hours on a Sunday is enough for me.

Compared to other secondary schools in the area the environment is relatively small but is rapidly improving, with the recent completion of the new build. The small environment forms and consolidates a good community vibe to this school that I cannot describe, although my experience was quite the opposite.

As an external Sixth former, I didn't make any friends. I blame this on the large number of internal students who already formed friendship groups prior to me arriving. Because of this I was entirely by myself for 90% of the time over the two years that I've been here, which eventually led me to have depression. So, if you're an external student that wants to come to this sixth form, to put it simply DON'T as you'll likely not make friends. I say this because back when I was in 6th form, only 20 STUDENTS out of 90+ came from other schools... the other 70+ students existed in St Michaels for the 5 years prior to me arriving. If you want to come here for secondary, check out other secondaries first unless you want to sacrifice your free will, in which case go to this school if you have no other option...

With that said, Goodbye St Michaels. Thank you for the wonderful though quite chaotic and depressing 2 years that I spent here.

However you will not be remembered in my heart LMAO.

This review was edited (27/01/2022) because of censorship 👎. Also bear in mind my review relates to my time in St Michaels, which ended in August 2019.
en
Coming from a former Sixth form student, the quality of education given to students isn’t that bad.
