St John's Church of England Primary School - Vision and Values
Home Our School Vision and Values Vision and Values Our Vision: Our school vision was created with input from children, staff, parents and governors. Involving our whole school community, we believe that our vision statement sums up who we are as a family and what we believe our role is as a school. If you have any questions about what our vision statement ‘looks like’, please ask. Our vision comes from Matthew 13 v 31-32 “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” Our vision for all in our school is that we enable children to gather (together as a community), grow (together and individually) and go (into our wider community), having a positive impact on those around them as they move on. Just like how the birds of the air make nests in the trees' branches, in our school, each class is named after a bird. Our Living and Learning Values: Our values are what makes our school, just as the branches and leaves make the mustard tree. We gather our school community to teach and show our values. Our vision for St John’s produces 3 Learning Values (grow) and 3 Living Values (go), these are at the heart of the everyday behaviours we expect to see in all members of our school community: Learning: Perseverance Ambition Teamwork Living: Honesty Kindness Peace We have studied different Bible stories that help us to understand what these values mean, where they have come from and what they look like in our school. At St John's, our Christian identity underpins everything: who we are, what we do and how we treat one another. Without this, we wouldn't be what makes us 'us'. Our School Prayers: Twice a day at St John's, the children gather in their classes to thank God for their lunch and their day of learning. Our school prayers, which reflect our school vision, are: Lunchtime: Thank You, God, for food today, For friends and fun and time to play. End of day: We gather here to end the day, Thank you, God, for work and play, Grow us in your love and light And guide us as we go tonight. Amen
