A few teachers will always be ‘special’ exceptions, but there isn’t much helping that. To counterbalance this, there are a few brilliant, caring teachers that show that they truly care about your development and success in education. (Shout out to Mrs Kang, Mr Lindo, Mr Samad Mohammad (even if he legit never answers emails for A-Level Maths students lol), Miss Hayes, Mr Mattu, Mr Mehmood, (the other Chemistry teacher from the Philippines, forgot her name lol), Mr Uddin, Mr Turnbull (left) and the streetlight-sized Mr Banks. You guys were the best teachers I think I’m ever going to have had).

A lot of the reviews seem to complain about the lunch lines, and while I completely agree in that it used to be a nightmare, it’s not as horrific now as it used to be. (Currently in their Sixth Form, so I’m not sure as to how accurate this is for Shireland Year Groups, but nevertheless).
Boys and girls are now separated into two lines behind traffic cones, of which a member of BMS will enter roughly 10-15 people into the canteen at a time to purchase their items, a system that is a significant improvement from ‘squeeze 150 students into the door as fast as possible’.

One of my biggest qualms about Shireland is how they will accept everybody. Not only does this lead to significant overpopulation within year groups (of which they barely have the capacity for), but in that they accept EVERYBODY. So many future thugs and drug dealers go to Shireland, leading to the disruption of everyone’s learning, let alone their own. Even kids with pure intentions when they start are corrupted by the social groups that they are around and can come out as legitimate criminals due to peer influence. This leads to gang behaviour inside the school, excessive bullying and fights with a failing Behavioural Management System that does NOTHING to actually rectify student behaviour, paired with teachers that simply don’t care about what’s happening inside the classroom. I get that being a teacher is extremely difficult for a job with very low pay (on average), but when students in your class are literally shouting verbal harassment outside of classroom windows to people on the playground, there’s a line, no? (I’m not saying this as an example either, this has literally happened to me a good few times in the past).

For the area it’s in, Shireland is easily a 5 star school. It has a really good education system (even if you spend the first couple years learning mostly useless information) and they go above and beyond to provide a good education to those that want it. But they have a lot of issues that really need to be rectified before Ofsted can consider them an “outstanding” school, of which its far from. Just because you ask students to hush up for the day of the inspection should not quantify a school to be outstanding, and Ofsted should work to rectify this system of testing. It says a lot when they give them Outstanding and Google reviews barely has it at 3 stars (with quite a few seemingly biased 4-5 star ratings 🤨).

In the end, it’s a good school. I knew how to pick good friends and did very well for myself. I doubt I’d be the same person I am now if I didn’t go there, so I’m thankful.
en
I have a very mixed opinion of Shireland.

I never had any problems with most teachers; I just did the work they prescribed and stayed quiet when they were talking, got on pretty well. They say it is an outstanding school and I 100% disagree. I've been in this school for not too long, so I can't really judge however this was my experience.

People have been calling me names so I tell my teacher. Eating in class is a rule that you cannot break, but why? What has eating class got to do with education? Maybe we didn't have breakfast, maybe if we eat a small amount of food, it will make us concentrate better. They make it sound so easy 'eat your breakfast'. I don't have to waste my time waking up early in the morning getting ready for school, having to walk in mostly bad weather and I don't have time to eat my breakfast so I have to go straight to class all moody, having to wait til' lunch. And the lunch there is horrific.

And they tell us sleep early. What if we can't? They don't understand!

I may be dramatic but they are seriously rude. They don't get how you feel. They leave people to bully others. It's not a safe environment. They also bring people to BMS for the stupidest things.

So school, fix yourself.
en
Okay so this school is really bad.

So school, fix yourself.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/a-/ALV-UjWSB4lJz4_aWc647S7rfY6E787Mgqg2p3ePFNudbvlrdQ=s128-c0x00000000-cc-rp-mo
2018-05-25T06:16:30Z"}]
