reviews: [{"relativePublishTimeDescription":"a month ago","rating":5,"text":{"text":"The school and the administrative staff have been terrific in taking care of my sons and communicating with our family. I am very happy with the curriculum and facilities that the school offers to all its students. My son graduated last year, and I am proud to say St.Andrews has given him the tools he needs to succeed in university life. He has performed phenomenally his freshmen year. He has been on the Dean's List every term his first year. I definitely believe it's because of his high school experience at St.Andrew (and his wonderful parents, or course, haha). Overall, the school has been very understanding with parents during the Covid-19 crisis, and has shown great compassion to the student body and the community in all matters. I strongly recommend considering St.Andrews as a school for any parents who are looking.","languageCode":"en"},"originalText":{"text":"The school and the administrative staff have been terrific in taking care of my sons and communicating with our family. Having studied in four different schools across my life, St. Andrews is the worst one ever. The 5 star reviews below are mostly from Thai individuals, who do not go through such discrimination as they are the majority of the school's population, while some are from teachers who work there.\n\nI moved from the French International School to St. Andrews from Year 8 onwards, and I was appalled by the amount of racism and bullying in this school. I was subject to racial discrimination on numerous occasions by students, and the school does absolutely nothing. The school prides itself on being \"inclusive\" yet it's not really inclusive within. The school should better educate students on matters such as racism, sexism etc.\n\nOn a residential trip, one of the teachers was even smoking with a student - which I find absolutely disgusting as some teachers encourage students to do this.\n\nApart from this, current students and recently graduated students have also reported that when they were caught smoking, teachers asked for bribes to cover up the students' smoking.\n\nIn addition to all of this, the school does not value academic achievement. At the end of every year, a merit award is given for each subject to individuals who improved the most, and an academic award is given to the highest performing student. For Spanish, the entire class knew that my grades were highest throughout both years of IB yet the academic award was awarded to someone else.\n\nThe teaching is also very poor; many teachers did not cover the entire syllabus for IGCSE and IB - and I had to do a lot of self-studying to get the grades I had gotten. It made me realise why students were not performing as well as they could have, because the teachers never covered the entire syllabus.\n\nI had some great teachers while I was a student: my physics teachers Mr. Mick & Mr. Keith, French teachers Mr. Jean-Claude & Mr. Fred, maths teacher Mr. Will, homeroom teacher Mr. Jon & my economics teacher Ms. Sara. Most of the other teachers barely had any experience in teaching or they just really did not care about any students.\n\nI also took music for IGCSE, along with two other students - our teacher Mr. Matt would just leave us all alone in the room for majority of the time to \"practice\", while in reality, we could have focused more on theory and practiced playing instruments at home. He would just leave us alone to go smoke or spend time with his wife who is also a drama teacher at St. Andrews. It was extremely disappointing.\n\nThe Spanish teacher I had was British with a double degree in English and Spanish. She taught both English Literature & Spanish, yet she was not qualified to teach Spanish at all. Having a degree in a specific language is not sufficient to teach that language. Her Spanish pronunciation was not even good enough to teach Spanish for IB, especially considering that IB Spanish also has an oral examination. Given that I am fluent in French, Spanish was always a language that was easy for me to pick up. Whenever I sent her emails in Spanish, she would respond in English. I'm not saying it's wrong for someone of a different nationality to teach a language that is not their native one, because some people can speak many languages fluently. However, I do strongly believe that St. Andrews should not rely on \"degrees\" but rather language proficiency exams to ensure that the teachers do speak the language fluently if it is not their first language. For instance, a non-native Spanish speaker should have a DELE certification with Level C1\/C2 at least to ensure that they are qualified to teach.\n\nIn addition to all of this, there were also some teachers who would make objectifying comments who would call students sexy which was extremely disturbing.\n\nI also heard from parents of current students that St. Andrews has been increasing the tuition fees significantly without parents' consent. Not sure why you would want to put your child in such school.","languageCode":"en"},"originalText":{"text":"As an alumni, I would strongly recommend you to not put your child in this school.
