Corbett (VA) CE Primary – Love to learn and learn to love
Welcome to Corbett (VA) CE Primary Love to learn and learn to love Headteacher’s Welcome What’s Going On at Corbett? New Job Vacancy We’re looking for a KS1 & EYFS Full Time Class Teacher! Have a look at our Vacancies page for details. Peace Garden Opens On Friday 23rd May, our new Peace Garden was formally opened in a ceremony involving parents and friends of Corbett. The project saw the redevelopment of our outdoor space to make it more accessible and useful, and it’s been a roaring success! You can read about the renovation work in our short retropective. Fortunately, the weather was glorious! Our heartfelt thanks to all those staff and parents who made the project such a success. We couldn’t have done it without you. The local Express & Star sent a reporter and you can read the article here (most of it is behind a paywall, unfortunately). The paper also shot this video promo: Introducing Mr Rufus Brown Rufus is our school dog. He is a Working Cocker Spaniel and has been attending our school since he was just 16 weeks old. Rufus lives with Lucy and her partner John. We have spent the first couple of weeks showing Rufus around the school and slowly introducing him to the sounds and smells of Corbett. Mr Brown has been crate trained and has a lovely warm crate in Lucy’s office. Eventually Rufus will work with children who have special needs, or who are upset in any way and in need of comfort or emotional support. He will also listen to children read and help them to gain confidence in their reading skills. There are many benefits to having a school dog, including: A calming effect on pupils, particularly those with behavioural or learning difficulties Improved behaviour and concentration, reduced stress and improved self-esteem Encouraging expression and participation in more withdrawn children Fostering a sense of responsibility Motivating pupils to think and to learn, as most children have a high level of natural interest in, enthusiasm for and enjoyment of animals Encouraging respect and thereby improving pupils’ relationships with each other, parents and teachers Teaching children to nurture and respect life Helping work undertaken with the most vulnerable children, and educational improvements with low achievers Helping children build confidence in reading If you have any questions, please contact the school office. We Will Remember Them On Monday 11th November, Daisy class performed A Letter from the Trenches to an enthusiastic reception from parents and local residents. BBC Midlands Today reporters were present and we made the evening news! To commemorate the 110th anniversary of WW1, the children in Years 3 and 4 have been practicing hard for a play entitled A Letter from the Trenches. From this, the children have not only produced some wonderful writing and work, but they’ve also found personal links to family members affected and gained an understanding of why it is so important that we remember. The children have learnt to empathize with the characters they are playing. See our Facebook page for more! Well done all, and thanks to producer Mrs Langford! Headteacher’s welcome Mrs E Jones, Headteacher On behalf of the Corbett family, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our school website and hope that as you explore it you gain a sense of the enabling and caring ethos we foster here. Our school is situated in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside, near Bobbington, and serves 80 fantastic children aged 3 to 11 from a widespread, yet loving community. It is a privilege to work with such happy, hardworking and polite pupils and welcoming, supportive staff. Everything we do is underpinned by our vision: “Love to learn and learn to love.†We have the children at the heart of all we do, and aim for all children to experience high expectations and quality teaching to enable them to be their best academically and personally.
