It was one of the best decisions I made to choose to study at Kingham for sixth-form. Although previously the school has been known for reaching those with learning difficulties, in recent years there has been a definite attempt to reach those who are more academic. This has been achieved most notably through the Octagon society, which I found extremely helpful though sometimes a challenge to fit around your studies. The fact that students have made it to top red-brick universities including Oxford, proves that academic standards are on the rise, although this will take time to have full effect.\n\nSport at Kingham is significantly improving, and I enjoyed the Headmaster's mentality of \"work hard, play hard.\" There are also many other extra-curricular activities that the school has to offer, including CCF, Performing Arts Academy and animal club. I loved the social side of KHS, and am still so close to my school friends because you share your whole life with them!\n\nPerhaps the change in leadership of the school ruffled a few feathers, but we are all fairly resistant to change as it is uncomfortable. The change in headmaster led to the departure of several staff, but the arrival of many passionate and highly qualified staff who have made Kingham their home. I particularly loved the way teachers would bring their families to meals, which created such a close family atmosphere. What impressed me most about teachers at KHS was that they care about you as a person, and not just a set of results. I have a brother and a sister still at the school, and am informed that the Headmaster is highly respected, and even has a great sense of humour according to my brother who is now in his final year! It is understandable that when changes were occurring long-standing pupils felt frustrated, but as pupils we can never see the big picture, and I trust that the new headmaster has the school's best interests at heart.\nI loved my time at KHS and it was worth every penny!","languageCode":"en"},"originalText":{"text":"As a former student of KHS, I can safely say I am a huge fan! My first three years at kingham were great. The school had a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere that allowed some pupils to do well and others to simply take it as it came. The worst decision of my life was to stay at kingham for my a levels. Now when browsing upon the schools website, one is presented with a perfect haven of education. Please do not be fooled by strong marketing. At great expense the website has been made up to attract any parent unto it. However you have to look past this. The reason we chose this little-known school for him was because my colleagues perceived a high standard of pastoral care when they visited and were impressed with the Headmaster who apparently was saying all the right things and passed muster with our not-easy-to-impress educational consultants. After the pupil started there, all went well and we had nothing but praise for his housemaster and in particular, the matron and the school nurse.\n\nFor this, it was all the more shocking and unexpected that the school behaved so appalingly when the pupil failed to renew his visa on a simple technicality. Instead of giving him a new invitation so that he could re-apply for the visa, they excluded him from the school. The Headmaster refused to meet to discuss this decision and when a complaint was made to him, an answer came back that our complaint was not a complaint and therefore their complaints policy did not apply! Throughout the whole ordeal there has not been a single word from the Headmaster, Revd. Nick Seward, who, whether out of shame or common parochial unintelligence, seemed to have burried his head in the sand and left his Bursar to deal with the situation. To add insult to injury the school claimed that they did not expel the pupil, but that the pupil left the school himself and therefore they would not be refunding the fees.\n\nThis school seems very keen to attract overseas pupils (and their fees), but if you are a prospective foreign pupil, parent or an educational agent, be warned - it is the fees rather than the pupil that are of main interest to the school's leadership. They will not think twice (even when repeatedly invited to do so) about excluding you from school and ruining your education, if they perceive a slightest theoretical risk to their standing with the immigration authorities.\n\nWe deal regularly with all the major public schools in Britain and it is impossible to imagine any of them ever acting so lowly in similar circumstances. Kingham Hill is a very proudly, or rather, loudly Christian school, but it is capable of the most unchristian and cowardly conduct towards its own pupils, even when they have done nothing wrong.","languageCode":"en"},"originalText":{"text":"I am a guardian of an overseas pupil at this school.
